The rain tree (Samanea saman) belongs to the mimosa family (Mimosoideae). Suar wood, as rain tree wood is commonly known, is a type of acacia. It comes from sustainable forestry and is not considered an endangered wood species.
Each wood slab is crafted from a single solid piece, making it extremely robust and durable. The surface features a vibrant, expressive grain with rich color variations. The slabs were lightly moistened before photographing to highlight the natural grain pattern.
From the center of the slab, the grain radiates in various shades of brown, resembling flowing flames across the surface. Toward the outer edges, the wood becomes very light—almost white—giving the slab an exotic and striking appearance.
In Europe, this exotic wood is mainly used for furniture making, such as tabletops, stair treads, window sills, bathroom furniture, vanity tops, and washbasin counters.
The tabletops are untreated, natural, saw-cut, and free from bark or bark residues.
